Three phases exist in the menstrual cycle: The Follicular phase, The Ovulatory phase, and The Luteal phase. The Follicular phase is also known as the Proliferative phase. This phase starts on the day of your menstruation and ends with ovulation. It lasts 14 days. This is the longest phase of your menstrual cycle. Your ovaries contain small sacs which are follicles. These follicles contain eggs. During this phase the follicles begin growing. Your estrogen rises here because it works to help thicken your endometrial lining.
The Ovulatory phase is when the egg is released to one of the fallopian tubes. This is typically on the fourteenth day of your menstrual cycle. The duration is typically twenty-four hours.
The Luteal phase is around the fifteenth day and ends when your menstruation starts. This phase is the egg’s journey from the fallopian tube to the uterus. During this journey if the egg becomes fertilized it implants into the uterine lining, pregnancy results. If the egg is not fertilized or doesn’t implant into the uterine lining menstruation results. During this phase your estrogen declines and your progesterone levels rise.
For those looking to receive chiropractic care to aid with their premenstrual and menstrual symptoms the best time is typically, during their follicular phase and ovulatory phase. You want to prepare your body for your premenstrual and menstrual symptoms when you're least sensitive. By the time you’re in your luteal phase you may already be experiencing premenstrual symptoms. If you’re already in the menstrual phase, menstrual symptoms may be present. These are not the ideal times.
Align your spine before your premenstrual symptoms and before your menstruation. This can help your body to be in its optimal functioning in preparation for your menstruation cycle. The chiropractic adjustment can trigger a rest and digest response in your nervous system, this may help with your premenstrual difficulty sleeping.
You don’t have to be an adult to receive chiropractic care. As soon as you get your first period you can schedule your appointment for chiropractic care if you weren't receiving care before. Yes, not everyone gets their period in their teens, preteens are of age to receive chiropractic care as well.
